Courtney Joens

Founder/Coach - Joens Basketball Academy

 

  • Courtney Joens is an Iowa City High Alum from the class of 2016.

  • She scored over 1,000 career points and helped her team win 4 conference titles, accumulating a career record of 78-16.​

  • ​Courtney went on to play college basketball at the University of Illinois where she majored in sports management with a minor in leadership.

  • After completing her career at Illinois she moved back to Iowa City to pursue a career in coaching youth basketball.

  • Courtney also got her Iowa High School coaching certificate in the summer following her graduation in May of 2020.

  • Courtney loves being in the gym and helping young players develop skills to help them improve and play at the next level.

  • Courtney offers private and small group lessons as well as camps and clinics.

Sadie Carrasco

Coach

  • Sadie is an alumni of Mount Pleasant (IA) High School.

  • She was honored with 1st team all conference awards her junior and senior seasons. Along with defensive MVP recognition.

  • She was invited to play in an All-Star showcase after her senior season.

  • She went on to continue her athletic career with the University of Iowa Women’s Rowing team.

  • Currently, she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in Health & Human Physiology, while acting as a Strength and Conditioning coach for a surrounding school.

  • Sadie joined the coaching staff of Joens Basketball Academy in the Spring of 2022.

  • Sadie loves working with young athletes, and navigate through the world of athletics.

Bri Smith

Coach

  • Bri Smith is a Solon High School alum from the class of 2018.

  • She went on to play college basketball at Central College.

  • After her sophomore year at Central College, Bri made the difficult decision to retire from basketball and transferred to the University of Iowa to be closer to family.

  • Bri graduated from Iowa with a major in interdepartmental studies with an emphasis in multidisciplinary sciences and a minor in global health.

  • Bri is pursuing a career in emergency services and plans to continue her education with a masters in organizational leadership and human physiology.

  • Bri has missed basketball ever since she transferred, so when the opportunity came to get back into the game on the coaching side, it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up.

  • Bri joins the coaching staff of Joens Basketball Academy in the Fall of 2022.

  • She is excited to be back in the gym more often and ready to help develop young players and help them reach their goals.

Raina Fagans

Coach

  • Bri Smith is a Solon High School alum from the class of 2018.
